Animals from the Louisiana SPCA were evacuated from New Orleans on Sunday. All 300+ animals have since been placed in adoption programs with various south Texas-based animal welfare groups, including the Houston SPCA. None of those animals will be coming to north Texas.
To help out people who fled the hurricane with their pets and traveled to north Texas seeking refuge, the SPCA is offering temporary placement for their pets in its Pet Haven program. The SPCA will take in animals whose owners are temporarily living in shelters in the Metroplex if the animals are already spayed or neutered and vaccinated or if the owners agree to have the pets spayed or neutered and vaccinated while in the SPCA’s care. Space is limited. To apply for this program, please call 972-562-7297, ext 123.
These two operations will put an enormous strain on the SPCA’s resources. We couldn’t do all we do without the community’s help. To support the SPCA’s Hurricane Katrina search and rescue efforts and Pet Haven program, please donate online by clicking the link below or call 1-888-ANIMALS, ext. 128.
